The National Rehabilitation Awareness Foundation (NRAF) is observing “National Rehabilitation Awareness Week” from September 18th through 24th, 2011. This week is designed to focus on the tremendous capabilities of individuals with disabilities, share their stories and accomplishments, commend the efforts of the professionals providing care, and commit to remove barriers to fulfill the needs of individuals with disabilities.
What is the National Rehabilitation Awareness Foundation?Since 1976, Allied Services served as the sponsor of National Rehabilitation Week, a nationwide celebration to educate people about the benefits of rehabilitation and the capabilities of people with disabilities. The National Rehabilitation Awareness Foundation, established in 1996 by Allied Services, is a not-for-profit healthcare system in Scranton, PA. The foundation was created to extend the observance from a one week event to a yearlong awareness campaign. Their mission is to educate people about the benefits and impact of rehabilitation, develop programs to help increase opportunities for the nearly 50 million Americans with disabilities, and to help those who are disabled live up to their fullest potential through rehabilitation.
